About the Team

The American University Men's Ultimate team, nicknamed Stall 11, is a competitive and fun loving group of guys who work hard to become the best Ultimate team possible. Ultimate, particularly at the college level, is one of the fastest growing sports in America. Fast-paced, simple to learn, tough to master, and with a strong and supportive community, Ultimate draws in all sorts of people from different walks of life. It is physically demanding, but fun and rewarding. We encourage anyone interested to come out and give the game a try. The time commitment isn't massive, but we are dedicated to what we do. We compete at multiple intercollegiate tournaments all over the region.

Founded in 1997, Stall 11 is gearing up for its 12th season!

News:

4/15/09: We have received an urgent message from Batman..."Dickbutt." Stall 11 is going to Regionals!

4/6/09: Stall 11 went into this past weekend's 2009 colonial college open sectionals with one goal in mind: to make regionals. We knew we'd be up against not only some of the best teams in our area, but ultimately some of the best teams in our entire region, including some teams that have competed at the national championships. I think it's safe to say that Stall 11 exceeded anybody's wildest expectations outside of our own.

Stall 11 went 3-1 on Saturday, losing to Georgetown in a hard fought game in which Stall 11 won the second half, but ultimately couldn't close the hole we had dug ourselves from the first half. On Sunday, Stall came out of the gate roaring, soundly beating GMU and Salisbury before advancing to our third game of the day against Delaware; this is the same Delaware that went to nationals last year. We knew this game would be a battle, and we weren't dissapointed. Despite being down at the half and then 8-5 after a Delaware callahan, Stall 11 stuck tough and took Delaware to the wire, coming all the way back to tie the game at 12-12 (universe). Upwind and on defense, Stall played some of the best ultimate ever generated by this team, getting the D and breaking Delaware upwind for the win, 13-12. And just like that, Stall 11 of American University ended Delaware's season.

Our victory against Delaware pushed us into the 3rd place game to go to regionals against Towson, who astonishingly beat GW, easily the most in-form team coming into sectionals. We started the game trading points with Towson, before Stall briefly took the lead, only to see that lead evaporate in the second half. Towson once again, as they had in Millersville, used a strong 4 man cup and disciplined handler movement to grab a series of break points for a 4 point lead late in the game that inevitably proved insurmountable; Towson eventually took the game 14-10.

Despite the fact that we didn't get the automatic bid to regionals, Stall 11 achieved more this weekend than it ever has in the past, finishing higher than both GW and Delaware, traditional powerhouses not only in our section, but in our region and beyond. In addition to that, there may be a chance that Stall 11 will go to regionals owing to the fact that we are the number one alternate should any teams drop out.

Stay tuned for updates as we prepare for a potential trip to regionals, and a new season next year!

3/28/09: Roll Call...terrible weather, and terrible fields. There's not much to say about the tournament itself, aside from the fact that Stall 11 had a nice comeback against Rutgers in the first game before being forced off the fields during our second game against Carleton.

3/23/09: With the success of High Tide fresh in our minds, Stall 11 went to Millersville, PA this past weekend to compete in the annual tournament held by Millersville University; 20 teams from around the region were in attendance, making this a critical warm-up to bigger tournaments yet to come: Roll Call, and Sectionals. Stall 11 rose to the occasion dominating pool play on Saturday (4-0), and utilising hot zone-D on Sunday to win three straight to advance to the final against Towson. Stall 11 came out of the gate on fire against Towson, breaking Towson 5 consecutive points before allowing a score; by Half time, Stall 11 was up 8-3 and would extend this lead to 9-3 before Towson began to turn up the intensity. Coming out of half, Towson began to utilise a strong 4-man cup and disciplined handler movement - before we knew it, the score was 13-8, and for the rest of the game, it was all Towson. Stall 11 began to lose some of the intensity that had won us 6 straight games coming into the final, and Towson capitalized running out the next 7 points for a heartbreaking 15-13 loss. Having been so close to our first tournament championship of the season, you can be assured that Stall 11 is hungrier than ever going into Roll Call this weekend!

3/19/09
: The Golden Isles...a far away land of sun, beaches, and Stall 11 success! The most anticipated tournament of the season lived up to the immense expectation, with terrific weather and some of the nicest ultimate fields I have ever played on.  The competition was intense, but Stall 11 played some of its best ultimate of the season to tie for 5th place, out of 28 teams at Session II!

2/17/09: Over this past weekend, Stall 11 participated in the UMD Round Robin at College Park, our first tournament of the season. Even though we didn't go up against the toughest competition in our section, regardless, Stall 11 performed admirably. The team really showcased the hard work we've been putting in at practices since the start of the season. Stand-out performaces came from JoePa, who made some ridiculous grabs, and Roman Ryan, who had some great deep cuts and scores - way to go "Princess!" Final results: First Place (4-0).

2/12/09: Stall 11 is braving the cold and gearing up for the spring season - our first major tournament, which is over spring break, is less than a month away! If you're interested in playing ultimate frisbee with us, come out to any of the practices listed below - no experience necessary!

1/22/09: We recently elected a new co-captain, Roman Ryan, to aid our veteran of many seasons - Matt Dingerdissen. After a brief hiatus abroad in China last semester, Roman is already hard at work pushing the team to be the best we can be on and off the field; this includes the patented Roman Ryan 6 minute ab workout - feel the burn!
